今回は、しっかり問題を解くということをさらに実践してみましょう！
文章と問題をもう一度載せます。
The Titus-Bode Law predicted that there would be a fifth planet
between Mars and Jupiter. In l800, a group of astronomers nicknamed
the “celestial police” was organized to search for the missing planet.
Before the plan could be put in effect, another astronomer, G. Piazzi,
discovered l Ceres, the largest asteroid, in this position in space on
New Year's Day, l80l. While trying to locate Ceres again, the astronomer
H. Olbers discovered 2 Pallas in l802. J. Harding discovered 3 Juno
in l804. H. Olbers also discovered 4 Vesta, the brightest asteroid,
inl807. It was not until l836 that a fifth asteroid, 5 Astrea, was added
to the list. At first, many nineteenth-century astronomers did not find
asteroids of much interest. One even called them “the vermin of the sky.”
In l89l, Max Wolf pioneered the use of astrophotography to detect asteroids.
Then Wolf went on to discover 248 asteroids, beginning with 323 Bruscia.
At present, around 150,000 asteroids have been discovered. Most are spotted
today by automated systems that pair telescopes with computers.

☆さっそく2番の問題に行ってみましょう。
2 What does the author imply about G. Piazzi in paragraph1?
(1段落で著者は G Piazziについて何をほのめかしていますか/暗に示していますか。)
A He was not trained as an astronomer.
B He worked closely with H. Olbers.
C He was not a member of the “celestial police.”
D He discovered the four largest asteroids.
この問いも“imply”ということで「直接」ではなく『暗に示している』ので気を
つけましょうね。
G Piazziが出てくるのは、3文目
＜Before the plan could be put in effect＞, another astronomer, G. Piazzi,
discovered l Ceres, the largest asteroid, in this position in space on New
Year's Day, l80l.
です。

ここでは、『同格』がまずポイントですね。another astronomer のあとの
, (カンマ)を見てください。その後ろにG piazza 出てきます。
『同じ形をカンマの前後で繰り返す＝同格』
(→A, B Aつまり/すなわちB, BであるA AであるB と日本語では表せます)
ということは、astronomer ＝ G Piazzi になるので
A He was not trained as an astronomer.
「彼はan astronomer（天文学者）として鍛えられていなかった」
は、『矛盾、×』ですね。notがあることで、＝(イコール)関係が崩れています。

第2のポイントは、another ですね。
another をつけるということは『他の、別の』、つまり『何か前に出てきたものを
除外する』ということなので、
ここでは、

「“celestial police”というニックネームの天文学者の集団」
意外の/を除いた天文学者＝G Piazziということになりますので、
C He was not a member of the “celestial police.”
「彼は“celestial police.”の一員ではない」
が正解となります。notがあることで、＝(イコール)関係を崩しています。

ということになります。

というところから、
the four largest asteroids は4 Vestaの言い換え(パラフレーズ)ですが、
それを発見した(discovered)のはH. Olbers であり, G Piazzi ではありませんね。
ということで『矛盾、×』です

そして2文目の

から、探していたのは、asteroids ではなく planet(惑星)でしたので
（1800年はまだ18世紀ですが、すぐ1801年から19世紀ですよね）、

が正解となります。
