頑張りましょう。また正当数が5割に満たない人は非常に語彙力が弱いと言えるので、
語彙補強に力を入れて英語の勉強に励みましょう。

特集：類語使い分けトレーニングPart1
英文ライティングは類語(類似の意味持つ語)の使い分けが非常に重要です。というのは、英文ライティングは、
会話と違って読者が発信者に質問できないことから、specific wordsが好まれ、例えば、言う（say）の代わりに
argue, allege, report, claim, などを使ったり、showの換わりに、illustrate, reflect, indicate, suggest
のように使い分けたり、与える(give)の代わりにprovide, supply, grant, extendなどを用いて意味を明確（specific）に
することができます。それでは、ヒントを参考に「思う」の類語グループの問題にチャレンジしてみましょう。
単に、think だけではいけませんよ。(スーパーレベルライティングより)

下の「思う」の類語グループの5つの選択肢の中から適当なものを選んでみましょう。
思う（predict, infer, divine, estimate, suspect）

ヒント・・・価格・規模・速さ・価格などを「計算」と「推測」で判断する

ヒント・・・「既知の情報」から論理的に推論する

ヒント・・・知識や経験を基にして将来の出来事を「予言」する

問題に使われたもの以外にも、「思う」を意味する単語を補足してみましょう。
□hold (ニュアンス・・・考え、意見、感情が事実であると思う（かたい語)）
They hold that he is responsible for it.
　（彼らは彼に責任があると思っている）
□assume (ニュアンス・・・確たる証拠もないのに本当だと思い込む)
We mustn’t assume that suspect is guilty.
（その容疑者が有罪だと思い込んではいけない）
□speculate (ニュアンス・・・詳細については知らないで、原因や効果を考える)
A spokesperson declined to speculate on the cause of the bribe scandal.
　（スポークスパーソンは、列車事故の原因について推測するのは控えた）
□project (ニュアンス・・・今ある情報から、数、規模、量、割合を予測する)
Government spending is projected to rise by ３% next year.
　（政府支出は来年３％上がると予測されている）
□presume (ニュアンス・・・７～８割の可能性でそうだと思う)
From the way they talked I presumed them to be sisters.
　（彼らの話し振りから察するに、彼女達は姉妹だろう）
□hypothesize (ニュアンス・・・証明はないが、様々な事実から可能な限りの仮説を立てる)　
Scientists have hypothesized the dinosaurs were killed by a giant meteor.
　（恐竜は巨大隕石で滅亡したと科学者たちは仮定した）
□surmise (ニュアンス・・・既知の不十分な情報や知識から推測をする)
The police surmise that the robbers have fled the country.
　（強盗一味は既に国外逃亡した、と警察は読んだ）
□conjecture（ニュアンス・・・不確かな情報・証拠で推測する）
He conjectured that the company would soon be in financial difficulties.
　（会社は近いうちに財政危機に陥るだろうと、彼は予測した）
□deduce (ニュアンス・・・周知の情報や証拠を熟考して結論を出す)
The police have deduced that the suspect must have left his apartment。
　（容疑者はアパートから逃げたのだろうと、警察は結論付けた）
□extrapolate(ニュアンス・・・既知の事実に基づいて、将来起こりそうなことを推測する)
It is unhelpful to extrapolate general trends from one case.
（一つの事例から一般の傾向を推測しても、意味がない）
