こんにちは、株式会社ランゲージ・キャリア・サポート「英語の仕事
.com」キャリアカウンセラーの有元ロブ玉磨光です。

つい最近、私と非常に似ているバックグラウンドを持つ日系カナダ人
の方と出会いました。子供の頃の経験があまりにも似ていて、まるで
鏡を見ている、不思議な感じでした。私達の両親は同じ1970年代の前半
にカナダへ移住した人たちです。その頃の永住者は二つのグループに
はっきり分かれます。一つは「自分の子供達に日本語や日本文化を
教えたい派」です。二つ目のグループは「新しい国へ移住したため、
少しでも早く現地の社会に馴染むよう、子供に一切日本のことを教えく
ない派」です。先日会った方と私の両親は二つ目のグループの者でした
ので、余計親近感を感じたのかも知れません。

ランゲージ・キャリア・サポートで毎日在日外国人や外国に興味ある
日本人と接しています。またキャリアカウンセラーとして、多くの人々と
外国（カナダ）での体験をシェアでき、そして同時に日本人
登録者から「日本の知らないことを教えてもらい、仕事をしながらとても
良い勉強にもなります。今後も登録者の皆さんの力になりたいと思います。

Dear Readers,

Just recently I met someone who was a Japanese-Canadian like myself.
It was a strange "looking in a mirror experience", as many of his 
childhood experiences were so much like my own.  Both our parents
immigrated to Canada in the early 1970's.  Those immigrants typically
fall into either one of the following categories: those who want to
teach their children about Japanese culture and language and those
who want to sever ties with Japan so as to acclimatize to Canadian
life as quickly as possible.  Perhaps since both our parents' were of
the latter type, I felt a strange closeness to this person.

At Language Career Support I meet foreigners living in Japan and
Japanese people interested in foreign cultures everyday.  As a
career counselor I have the opportunity to share my experiences
overseas (Canada) while at the same time being taught many things
about Japan (from our Japanese candidates), I am lucky to be able to
"study" at work.  I hope to work with all our registrants with their
job search.

│後│記│昔からゾンビ系ゲームが一番好きですが、ドラゴン
└─┴─┘クエストのマンガっぽい絵と深い内容のストーリーの
　　　　　コントラストにはまります。時々遊んでいるときに
    　"こんな歳になって、こんなことをやっていいのかな？"
      と思いますが、かなり夢中になっていつの間にか一日
    　が終わっています。やっぱちょっとお小遣いを貯めて、
    　次はWiiを買おうかな？

Haven't been doing too much lately on the weekends.
I recently started playing Dragon Quest again on my PS2.
Zombie games have always been my favourite, but I like the
simple characters images, yet storyline complexity of Dragon
Quest.  Sometimes I ask myself if it is OK to be playing
games at this age, but as always I get really focused and
the next thing I know, the whole day has gone by.  So, I 
guess I should start saving up a little to buy a Wii.
