　　今日は、休暇をとらせてくれない上司と部下の会話から。
　
　　Susan was desperate for a few days off from work. But she
    knew that the boss wouldn't let her take a vacation. So she
    got a crazy idea. She hung upside down on the ceiling until
    the big guy noticed and asked her what she was doing.

    "I'm a light bulb, " she told him.

    "You are clearly stressed-out," said the boss, looking
    concerned.

    "Go home and take it easy for a couple of days."

    Susan jumped down and headed for the door. Her co-worker
    Janice seized the opportunity and followed Susan.

    "Where do you think you're going?" the boss hollered
    after her.

    "I'm going home, too," Janice said.

    "I can't work in the dark."

　　　「捕まえる」「獲得する」。

　　　ぎゅっと捕らえて離さない、というイメージ。

　　　"While he was taking a nap, the phone rang and he hastily
      seized the phone."
      （彼が昼寝をしていた時に電話が鳴り、彼は慌てて受話器をつか
      んだ。）

      警察などが「押収する」という意味でも良く使われます。

    Susanは数日の休暇が欲しくてたまらなかった。しかし上司が休暇
    を許可してくれないことが分かっていた。そこでSusanはとんでも
    ないアイデアを思いついた。彼女は天井から逆さまにぶら下がり、
    上司が気づいて、何をしているんだと質問するのを待った。

    「私、電球なんです。」彼女は上司に言った。

    「君は明らかに疲れているね。」と、上司は心配そうな顔で言っ
    た。

    「家に帰って何日か楽にしてくれ。」

    Susanは飛び降りてドアへ向かった。彼女の同僚、Janice、も同じ
    ように電球になってみた。

    「どこへ行くんだ？」上司は叫んだ。

    「私も家に帰ります。」Janiceはこう答えると上司は言った。

    「暗闇じゃ仕事ができないよ。」
