　　東京都三鷹市の私立明星学園小、中学校でテストや通知表から「点数」を一切なくす
教育が試みられているという話は実に興味深い。テストは問題別にできたら○、できなければ×
をつけるだけで、点数は付けない。通知表も、十段階評価をやめ、文章による評価と合格、
不合格の判定だけにしたという。作春から始めてちょうど一年。父母の間には不安の声も
あるが、教師や生徒の間ではなかったか評判もいいようだ。

           It  is  of  considerable  interest    that  a  pilot  project  in  which
instruction  is  carried out  without  resort   to  any  numerical   grading
whatsoever   for  tests  or  report  cards  is  currently  in effect.
 
     This   is at  the primary  and  junior  high  divisions  of
Myojo  Gakuen,  a  private   school at  Mitaka City, Tokyo.
Test  questions  are  simply    marked  correct  or  in correct
and  the ten-point  system used  for  report  cards  has
been  done away  with.  A  simple  statement indicates  whether
the student  has passed  
or  failed.  Begun last  spring,  the  system has been 
in effect   for  exactly  one year  now   and,   although  there have been some
complaints   among  parents,  teachers  and  pupils  are
all   in  favor  of it.

　　聴到有在東京都三鷹市的私立明星学園小、中学校的測験的成績通知単上面、
一切不付加「分数」的教育試験、実際很令人感到有趣。
在測験的問題紙上、根拠問題別、可以作到則画○、作不到則画×的記号。
而不加打分数。

　　在通知表上、也放棄了十段階評価方式、只有根拠文章評価之後作合格、
或者不合格的判定。従去年春天開始正好満一年。在家長父母之間、也有
感到不安的声音、但是在教師与学生之間、却無此不安的声音、
風評也好像不錯。

　　学校教育の中で「点数」が大きくのさばって来た原因のひとつは、いうまでもなく
受験の影響だろう。偏差値や内申書がものをいう高校入試の重圧が、小、中学校の
日常の授業にまで次第に及んできたわけだ。

恐れがある。数字で表せない個性や特質は切り捨てられ、手数のつけやすい資質
だけに目が向けられがちだ。「点数をなくしたことで、一人の生徒が前より
ずっとよく見えてきた」という同校の教師の話は、点数主義教育の弊害をズバリ
突いているといっていい。

     However , when  we  speak  of  education  based  on  a system  of
numerical  grading,  there is the fear that  the most  significant

the  case with which  the  point system can be applied  tends  to
be the dertermining  factor.  One  of  the teachers  at  the
Myojo  Gakuten  remarked  that,  ''  by doing away with
the point system, the student's  indivdualitybecomes much more 
clearly  defined.''  His  statement  strikes  home  at  the
shortcomings  of point-system education, does it not?

這句話、可説是非常地準確的命中了打分数主義的教育弊害了。

a  number  of  areas,  but   this  is probably   the  first  time  that  they  have
been  linked together.

集合起来、参加反対運動。這種横向的聯合、我想還是初次的　口巴！

　　　東大寺の旧境内地にある陋屋の裏庭を、吉城川が流れている。
吉城川の名のひびきには似つかわしくない小川だが、１０年前ごろまでは、清らかな流れで、
カワエビや、モロコ、ウナギなどもいて、カワセミや、セキレイなどもよく飛んできた。
梅雨のころともなれば、ホタルが盛んに飛び交い、座敷にまで闖入してきて、来客を
驚かせ、喜ばれもした。

*   Fireflies *

         The  Yoshiki  River  flows  through  the  rear  garden  of  the little
cottage  on  the  former  grounds  of  Tpdai  Temple  in  Nara.
 There  is something   incongruous   in  the   sound  of   " Yoshiki  River"
as  it  applies  to   this  small stream.  yet  up  to  about  a decade  ago,
it  flowed  along  clear  and  provided  a  home   for  river  shrimp,dace  and
eels; birds  like  the  kingfisher  and  the  wagtail  flitted  about  and when
the rainy season  drew near, the place  became  filled  withed   a
swirling  mass  of  fireflies,  some even  coming into  people's
homes,surprising  and  delighting  their  guests.

★蛍火虫★

　　　在東大寺的旧境内地有間陋屋的裏面庭院、有條吉城川流過。即使有著
吉城川的大名、但是却是上小河川而己。約在１０年以前、有著清水一般的流水、
河蝦、小魚、鰻等等皆有。河蝉等也都会飛来。在梅雨季節時、蛍火虫更多。
有時闖入民家的客庁、驚動了客人、也譲客人感到驚喜。


カワエビや、モロコ、ウナギなどもいて、カワセミや、セキレイなどもよく飛んできた。
梅雨のころともなれば、ホタルが盛んに飛び交い、座敷にまで闖入してきて、来客を
驚かせ、喜ばれもした。

　　　そんな生きるものもすっかり姿を消し、一時はザリガニが我がもの顔に流れを横行
していたが、それもみられなくなり、近頃目にするのは、ジュースや、ビールの空きかん、
駄菓子のビーニル袋の類である。

      Such  creatures  have  completely  disappeared.  There were  once  crwwfish  there

　　像那種生物也完全消失了。有一段時期、野生的蟹在我行我素的到処走動。

　　ところが、昨年の梅雨どきのこと、夕食の支度をしていた家内が「ホタルがいますよ」と、

光が目にとまった。

    Yet, last  year  at  the  time  of  the rainy season,my  wife  called  out , 
as  she  was getting  dinner  ready, that  there  were  some  firflies.
I   rushed   out  onto  the porch  to  take a look and spotted  the
dim  light of a  pair  of   fireflies  flickering   in   a  clump
of grass  by  the river's  edge.

　　但是、去年的梅雨時、我的内人在準備晩餐時、大声的叫説「有蛍火虫！」
我急著走到門辺看、在河川的岸辺的草裏、見到了二個正在明滅著的光点。

　　大仏ホタルというにしては、光がいかにも弱弱しく、気息えんえんの感じはしたが、
とにかく１０余年ぶりに蘇ったホタルの光を目にして、嬉しくなった。

         for  a   species known  as  the Great  Buddha  firefly  their  illumination
was  rather   faint;  it  gave  one  the  feeling  of  a ''  meandering  pulsation''
yet  the  sight  of this  firefly  light, revived   after  an  abence  of  m ore
than   a  decade , made   one  very  happy  indeed.

★大仏ホタル★

　　這是大仏蛍火虫、但是光大微弱了。感覚到有気無力的。不過這十数年来、総算可看到
蛍火虫的光点、心中還是很高興的。

　　その時期も間近くなった。今年は、どれほど増えるだろうか、と楽しみにしている。
先日の愛鳥週間の新聞記事によると、野鳥の種類や数が増えてきているようである。
そういう兆しは、部分的にしろ、公害が薄らいだ結果であろう。喜ばしいことである。

      It  will  soon  be  time  for them  to  reappear  and,  as  we   look

the other  day.  the number and   variety   of  wild   birds   are  on  the
increase.  Does  this  mean   that   pollution  is   waning?  One
certainly  hopes  so.

　　那個時期也快到了。今年可増加到達多少、令人有著期待的快楽。
前幾天的愛鳥週的新聞記事上、有提到野鳥的種類及数量己経在不断的増加。
像這様子的徴兆、即使是只是部分的、也是減少公害的結果。這是令人感到
高興的。
