It'll take me a while to learn the ropes, so please bear with me during this transition period. ────────────────────────────── incumbent, 現職の ────────────────────────────── 名詞としてのincumbent。 An incumbent is someone who holds an official post at a particular time. [FORMAL] 形容詞としてのincumbent。 ex) the only candidate who defeated an incumbent senator. ────────────────────────────── step down, 辞職する、辞任する ────────────────────────────── If you step down or step aside from an important job or position, you resign from it, often in order to let someone else take your place. ex) before stepping down last month because of illness. ────────────────────────────── privilege, 恩恵、ありがたいこと、特権 ────────────────────────────── You can use privilege in expressions such as be a privilege or have the privilege when you want to show your appreciation of someone or something or to show your respect. ex) It must be a privilege to know such a man. ────────────────────────────── without further ado, 余計なことはこれくらいにして、さっさと ────────────────────────────── If you do something without further ado or without more ado, you do it at once and do not discuss or delay it any longer. [OLD-FASHIONED] ex) 'And now, without further ado, let me introduce our benefactor.' ────────────────────────────── learn the ropes, （仕事などの）やり方 [こつ] を覚える ────────────────────────────── If you learn the ropes, you learn how to do a particular job or task. ex) He tried hiring more salesmen to push his radio products, but they took too much time to learn the ropes. ────────────────────────────── その他にも、次も押さえておきたい。[誌面の都合上省略] ★は重要表現 ────────────────────────────── career move, 転任、転職 Bear with me. , (私に)我慢してください、お待ちください。 That goes for me too. , 私もそう思います。 ■もう一度読んでみよう The incumbent president of that operation has unfortunately fallen seriously ill and stepped down.
