It's all too common for anger issues to be swept under the carpet. ────────────────────────────── set someone off, (人)を怒らせる ────────────────────────────── If something sets a person off, it makes them angry, or makes them remember something and they start talking a lot. ex) The smallest thing sets him off, and he can't stop talking about his childhood. ＃この例文は「怒らせる」という意味ではありません。 ────────────────────────────── reduce someone to tears, （人）を泣かせる ────────────────────────────── If someone or something reduces you to tears, they make you feel so sad that you cry. ex) The attentions of the media reduced her to tears. ────────────────────────────── the last straw, 我慢の限界 ────────────────────────────── If you say that something is the last straw or the final straw, you mean it is the latest in a series of unpleasant or difficult events, and it makes you feel that you cannot tolerate a situation any longer. ex) The increased hardship caused by water and power cuts appears to have been the last straw and provoked open rebellion. ────────────────────────────── give someone his walking papers, (人)を解雇する、（人）に 解雇通知書を渡す ────────────────────────────── If you are given your walking papers, you are made to leave something such as a job or a relationship. This expression is used in American English; the British expression is marching orders. ex) Sol Siegel having been ousted several months earlier, it was Vogel's turn to get his walking papers from the board of directors. ────────────────────────────── sweep under the carpet, (悪事、恥ずかしいこと)を隠す、 …を人目につかないようにする ────────────────────────────── If you sweep something under the carpet, you try to hide it and forget about it because you find it embarrassing or shameful. Other verbs such as 'brush' and 'push' are sometimes used instead of 'sweep'.
